About this event
Join us in welcoming Richard Cobello, author of the cybercrime thriller set in our own backyard, “The Shady Side of Saratoga” on Saturday August 1st, 2026 from 9am till noon.
Rick Cobello is a former Chief Information Security Officer, enterprise IT executive, and cybersecurity advisor with more than four decades of experience securing large-scale systems for Fortune 5 companies, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and law enforcement. He also has significant experience working in the back stretch at the Saratoga Race Course. He is also a former Saratoga TODAY magazine contributor.
The Shady Side of Saratoga is the first of 5 in the Catherin King Enigmatic Quest. The tale grows directly from Richard Cobello’s lifelong immersion in cybersecurity, history, and the world of horses. Its “polite” system failures, institutional blind spots, and crimes concealed behind flawless compliance reflect a hard-earned truth from his career: the most dangerous breaches rarely announce themselves. They hide inside trusted processes, respectable organizations, and records that appear perfectly correct. Cobello uses his firsthand experience inside complex institutions to write fiction about crime hidden in plain sight.
About the Book:
Beneath the elegance of Saratoga Springs—its historic hotels, polished traditions, and world-class horse culture—someone has learned how to make crime look legitimate.
When senior FBI cybersecurity investigator Catherine King uncovers a series of seemingly harmless system failures tied to the National Horse Showcase, she senses something far more deliberate beneath the missing records, delayed approvals, and perfectly timed omissions. Each irregularity appears minor. Together, they reveal a criminal enterprise hiding not outside the rules, but inside them.
As Catherine closes in, she realizes she is not merely hunting the people behind the operation. She is confronting a system designed to protect them—and an adversary willing to kill to preserve the illusion that everything is exactly as it should be.
