About this event
Following the sold-out success of last year’s La bohème, Opera Saratoga’s second winter opera will be an abridged concert staging of Verdi and Piave’s masterpiece La Traviata, performing on Friday, December 4 at 7pm for one night only at Universal Preservation Hall in downtown Saratoga Springs.
One of the most beloved operas of all time, Traviata tells the story of Violetta Valéry, a Parisian courtesan who falls in love with a nobleman, Alfredo Germont. Despite his family’s objections and her declining health, they share one of the greatest love stories of all time. Verdi’s masterpiece has influenced contemporary pop culture, including iconic films like “Pretty Woman” and “Moulin Rouge.”
Traviata will feature a cast of rising opera stars including Mikayla Sager as Violetta, Daniel O’Hearn as Alfredo Germont and Greg Feldmann as Giorgio Germont. The performance will also feature the Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, led by Andrew Burger. With a running time of 85 minutes, the production will feature music direction by pianist Adam Nielsen, who will accompany the evening. General and Artistic Director Mary Birnbaum will stage the proceedings, which will feature interstitial narration. The performance will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.
