About this event
Learn new skills and gain valuable information designed to help you provide safe, high-quality care when babysitting. The teen's name and email address will be shared with the American Red Cross in order to obtain a babysitting certificate as well as a pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certificate. Teens are welcome to still attend the course and pass on acquiring the official certification. Please bring a bag lunch and drink. Youth ages 11+ are welcome to register online* *PLEASE NOTE: Registration is limited to Saratoga Springs City School District residents ONLY*
What to Expect

The first half of the course, led by the teen librarian, will cover the fundamentals of babysitting and include hands-on practice using manikins.

The second half of the course will cover American Red Cross–approved techniques for First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Training supplies, including manikins, will be arranged on tables and on the floor in the training space.

Participants are expected to actively participate and contribute to questions and discussions.

Participants should be physically able to kneel during the hands-on portion of the course.

Participants will be required to place their hands on fellow participants while practicing choking techniques; this hands-on participation is required to successfully complete the course.

There will be a scheduled break midway through the course for lunch. Participants are welcome to eat in the room.
