About this event
This course teaches students how to recognize and handle first aid, breathing, and heart-related emergencies for people of all ages. Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to register online. The teen's name and email address will be shared with the American Red Cross in order to obtain an adult and pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certificate. Teens are welcome to still attend the course and pass on acquiring the official certification. Registrants must bring a bag lunch and drink.
What to Expect

The teen librarian will instruct participants in American Red Cross-approved techniques for First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Training supplies, including manikins, will be arranged on tables and on the floor in the training space.

Participants are expected to actively engage and contribute to questions and discussions. They will work with a partner throughout the class.

Participants should be physically able to kneel during the hands-on portion of the course.

Participants will be required to place their hands on fellow participants while practicing choking techniques; this hands-on participation is required to successfully complete the course.

There will be a scheduled break midway through the course for lunch. Participants are welcome to eat in the room.
