About this event
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site invites the public to an event commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Henry Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery. Join us from 1pm to 5pm for an immersive historical reenactment as the ceremonial linstock and cannon arrives at Schuyler Mansion in Albany. Interact with historical reenactors and enjoy 18th century refreshments. This outdoor event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the free event, visitors can reserve a spot for “Knox’s Layover at Albany,” guided dramatic tours offered on the half hour, from 2pm to 4:30pm (last tour is at 4pm). Witness Knox’s stay at the mansion, his impact on the household, and Philip Schuyler’s role as host and facilitator of the wagon train’s vital passage from Fort Ticonderoga through Albany and over the Hudson River. Space is limited for the dramatic tours, reservations required.
This event is part of a larger Knox Trail 250 simulation of the historic journey, which includes dozens of towns from New York to Massachusetts. After Schuyler, the next stop will be Crailo State Historic Site in Rensselaer, on January 3, 2026, at 3pm.
In the winter of 1775, General George Washington tasked Knox, a 25-year-old book seller, with hauling 60 tons of captured British cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. Boats, horses and ox-drawn sleds moved the cannons approximately 300 miles in just 56 days over snow and ice through rivers, forests and swamps, in what became known as Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery.
Please note that only a few spaces are available in Schuyler Mansion’s parking lot, for visitors with mobility concerns only. Visitors are advised to allow extra time for free street parking. Schuyler Mansion is located at 32 Catherine Street in Albany’s historic South End.
