Here’s one holiday festival you won’t want to miss! Take a trip to the Saratoga Springs City Center and enter a magical wonderland of decorated trees, wreaths, and centerpieces at the annual Festival of Trees. General admission tickets will be available at the door, and special events will take place throughout the weekend.
In celebration of the holiday season, the Schenectady County Historical Society will fill their galleries with lighted fir trees. This shimmering festival always features trees decorated in a variety of Christmas styles, from classic to kooky. Come and see the trees from December 1 – December 16.
The Great Train Extravaganza is the region’s largest model railroad and toy train hobby show, and it’s held each year at the New York State Convention Center in Albany. Highlights of the show include dozens of vendors offering new and used trains for sale, several operating model railroads, exhibitors showing off pieces of railroad history, and more.
Celebrate With the Biggest Holiday Events of the Season
The Clifton Park community knows how to celebrate the holiday season, so mark your calendar for the Halfmoon Holiday Celebration & Tree Lighting this Saturday. The celebration will kick off at the Halfmoon Town Hall with pictures with Santa, face painting, balloon making, crafts, visits from holiday characters, and more. Afterwards, you can attend a tree lighting at Abele Memorial Park.
Albany will light up the city with their annual Empire State Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival on Sunday from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Join them for a full schedule of fun activities, such as live music, horse and carriage rides, visits with Santa Claus, a holiday marketplace, and more.
Get ready to step back in time as downtown Troy transforms during the annual Victorian Stroll presented by the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce. This old-fashioned holiday celebration offers over 100 free attractions and events, from musicians and storytellers to rides, an arts and crafts show, refreshments, and more. Best of all, local shops and boutiques will be open for holiday shopping.

If you’re in the mood for ice skating this weekend, then you’re in luck. The ice rink at the Empire “Skate” Plaza will open for the season this Friday beginning at 4:30pm. Rentals are free!
Get festive this weekend and sign up for the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Halfmoon Town Park on Saturday. Wear your favorite holiday costume, put some jingle bells on your shoes, and join friends and family for a fun run to support the nonprofit organization.

Based on the Christmas movie Elf starring Will Ferrell, Elf the Musical Jr is a family-friendly show presented by the Saratoga Children’s Theatre. The story follows Buddy, a young human orphan who is raised as an elf in the North Pole. Performances will take place on Friday at 7:00pm, Saturday at 7:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm.
