A newly formed technical and K9 search and rescue team, Search and Rescue Response Team (SARRT), is hosting an informational and recruitment meeting on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library.
SARRT is comprised of experienced professional SAR volunteers, law enforcement, medical professionals, and skilled individuals from the private sector. The team’s primary mission is to aide requesting agencies in disaster response and preparedness in addition to the search and rescue of lost subjects.
SARRT needs to fill positions on the logistics, K9, technical rescue, and communications teams. According to the Times Union, members must be willing to participate in regular training in wilderness search, K9 SAR, orienteering, medical first aid/response, wilderness survival, communications, crime scene preservation, mountain rescue, and logistics.
Volunteers do not necessarily need to have outdoor experience. Skill sets including radio communications, accounting, organization, planning, cooking, and fundraising are also highly valued.
