Walks & Runs
Saturday, October 15
Join Captain Youth & Family Services for this two-mile community walk around Clifton Park. There will be kids activities, refreshments, door prizes, and an open house at Captain. You must register online ahead of time. The walk is $20 per family in advance ($25 day of event), or $10 per individual in advance ($12 day of event). Group rates are also available.
Running SCCCared 5k Family Run/Walk
Saturday, October 15
The Crossings of Colonie in Loudonville is hosting the Running SCCCared 5k to support St. Catherine’s Center for Children. The first 300 registered runners 13 and older will receive a free tee-shirt; kids 12 and under will get a free drawstring trick-or-treat bag. You must register online, and registration is $25 in advance for adults ($30 day of event), $20 for students, and children under 12 are free.
Saturday, October 15
Light the Night is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual evening fundraiser to bring help and hope to those affected by cancer. The walk is happening at Siena College in Loudonville. Walkers symbolically light the dark world of cancer by carrying illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold for those walking in memory of a loved one. There is no charge for this event.

Friday, October 14 to Sunday, October 16
The Institute of Fear at the Saratoga Country Fairgrounds in Ballston Spa is once again bringing us the Saratoga Scare Fair, where your fears and phobias come to life! This is a truly scary event, not suitable for young children. Tickets are $10.

Happening all through October, Double M in Ballston Spa is featuring their horrifying haunted hayrides. Consider checking out one of the scariest adventures in the Capital Region this weekend. Tickets, which also include additional attractions, are $25 and you must make reservations ahead of time. As with the Scare Fair, this one is not suitable for kids.
The Zombies are Coming! Film Festival
Friday, October 14 to Sunday, October 16
The Madison Theater in Albany is hosting this zombie-filled film festival, with an amazing lineup of fantastic zombie films. Costs range from $5 to $35. There will also be a world premier of a local Albany filmmaker’s debut feature, academics to prepare us for the zombie horde, a concert, and a costume contest.
Fun for Kids
Pumpkin Carving with Chef Chris
Saturday, October 15
Come and carve pumpkins with Chef Chris at IL Faro Restaurant in Albany! They provide the pumpkin, carving tools, assistance, and even roast the pumpkin seeds for you to bring home. Hot cider will be available for kids, with a full bar and cocktails for the adults. You must make a reservation by phone or email by October 13th, and the cost is $10 per pumpkin.

The Henry Hudson Planetarium in Albany is hosting its monthly Children’s Astronomy Show with an interactive program exploring the stars, planets, comets, and constellations. The event is best for kids ages three to seven and their families, and only costs $3.
