Clifton Park native, Nick Petrecki, made it to the highest level of professional hockey on Tuesday, January 30. The 23-year-old defenseman was called up by the San Jose Sharks in January and was able to make his NHL debut against the Anaheim Ducks.
The 6-foot-3 Petrecki was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft. Before he was drafted, Petrecki played for the Troy-based Capital District Selects of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. In 2008 he played for Boston College and won the NCAA National Championship as a freshman. He made his pro debut in 2009 for their minor-league affiliate, the AHL’s Worcester Sharks.
Petrecki is the second area resident to make their NHL debut this season, on January 28, Albany native Biran Lashoff scored a goal for his debut with the Detroit Red Wings against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
