About this event
On this trip to New York City, we'll honor two iconic representations of American letters: F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and The New Yorker magazine, both turning 100 in 2025. Our daylong excursion and tour, curated in partnership with author and historian Kevin C. Fitzpatrick, offers a blend of storytelling, history, and literary nostalgia.
The Saturday, June 21, literary tour itinerary:

8:30 a.m. depart from the University at Albany – State Quad Commuter parking lot (see below), arriving in NYC 11:30-noon.

Noon: Lunch location TBD

1:30 p.m. A 90-minute guided tour of literary landmarks led by Kevin C. Fitzpatrick.

3-4:30 p.m. Self-guided visit of The New Yorker exhibit at the New York Public Library, 476 5th Avenue at Bryant Park.

4:30- 7 p.m. Free time to shop, sightsee, or enjoy a meal.

7:30 p.m. Meet at the Algonquin Hotel for return to Albany.
Seats are limited. The cost -- including transportation, tour, and lunch – is $135 before June 12 and $150 after.
The excursion is presented by the NYS Writers Institute and the UAlbany Alumni Association.
Note: The day will include a good amount of walking.
