About this event

This year’s keynote speaker is Brigadier General Gary R. Charlton II, United States Air Force. A combat veteran, Brig. Gen. Charlton served in seven combat deployments, including Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Northern Watch during his time as an enlisted member, and four additional deployments flying F-16C combat missions in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

A command pilot with over 3,400 flight hours, he has flown the T-37, T-38A, T-38C, F-16C/D, MQ-1, MQ-9, and C-17A. Brig. Gen. Charlton currently serves as Assistant Adjutant General – Air for the New York Air National Guard, Department of Military and Naval Affairs in Latham. He oversees mission and operational effectiveness across six distinct weapons systems, five flying wings, and the Eastern Air Defense Sector.

Memorial Day weekend is one of the most honored and photographed times at the cemetery, with tributes including the flag-lined entrance, state flags surrounding the Flagpole Assembly Area, the firetruck flag presentation, and the ‘Flags In’ program, which honors each veteran’s gravesite with a flag and full honors.

Parking: Ample public and accessible parking will be available. Please follow posted signage. Due to expected heavy traffic, early arrival is recommended.

What to Bring: Family, friends, children—and lawn chairs!

Take time this weekend to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day: honoring those who gave their all.
