Biography Mihali and Zdenek met in 2007 when Zdenek auditioned for Twiddle. The two have been playing together ever since. Needing something to do when twiddle wasn't on tour they decided to create a different musical outlet for the two of them. They have had a Tuesday night residency at Nectars since April . Description With the help of a loop pedal Gubbulidis is able to create a unique sound that is much bigger than what a duo usually has to offer. Between Mihali's BeatBoxing and Zdenek's percussive bass lines they are able to create a variety of beats that fill out there sound and enable them to create the full band vibe that makes them so much fun to see live. When Ed Kanze moved to the Adirondacks in 2000, he was moving to an area his ancestors had been connected to since 1797. It was like coming home, even though he had grown up in New York's Westchester County and had traveled and worked all over the country and abroad. In his new memoir, Adirondack: Life and Wildlife in the Wild, Wild East, he brings the unique history of this area to life by sharing stories about many of his ancestors, including an aunt who was treated for tuberculosis at a sanatorium and a great-great-grandfather, who owned tanneries, a lumber business, and a hotel, and who also served as a judge and assemblyman.

Where do you begin the task of trying to describe Johnny Rizzo? The elastic faces, the flopping limbs, the silly, googly eyes…he's got you in stitches and he hasn't even opened his mouth yet! And once that happens, you're gone. At the end of the night, your face hurts - literally - from the constant laughter. He has earned the nickname, "The Rubber-Faced Comedian." Part old school (think Red Skelton, Jerry Lewis, Danny Kaye) intertwined with his own unique observations on everyday life, Johnny Rizzo has been cracking up audiences around the country for over 30 years. Born in raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Johnny cut his comedy teeth in some of the most hallowed clubs in New York City, including Catch a Rising Star, Caroline's, Dangerfield's and The Comic Strip. Before long, Johnny was opening all over the country for superstars including Jay Leno, Richard Belzer, Dennis Miller, Tommy Chong, Joan Rivers, "Weird" Al Yankovic, Ray Charles, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Mamas and the Papas, Pat Cooper and Henny Youngman. Johnny has headlined across the country at The Bitter End in NYC, the Borgota Casino in Atlantic City, the Riviera and Sun Coast casinos in Las Vegas and at all the major comedy clubs, including Madison Square Garden. He has appeared on numerous television programs including NBC's Last Comic Standing, Fox's 30 Seconds to Fame, A & E Comedy on the Road and The Joan Lunden Show. He also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement - Performance Artist, for the acclaimed CPTV comedy special, Hot Summer Nights. He also hosted his own public-access talk and variety show, The Johnny Rizzo Show. Johnny has also toured the country as part of Jim Labriola's Night of 1000 Guidos comedy revue show. He continues to perform hundreds of shows per year. "I'm a road monkey," says Johnny, "I'm paying off my car with jokes." He has appeared in numerous television commercials and also appeared in feature films. Johnny is currently the host of ESOTERICA with Johnny Rizzo, a offbeat radio program now available for free downloads on iTunes.

On March 1, 1885, America and the world learned that internationally renowned Civil War General and former U.S. President, Ulysses S. Grant, was dying of throat cancer. Grant had been financially ruined in the 19th Century's most infamous Ponzi scheme in 1884. A concerned and sympathetic public watched his race with death to complete his memoirs. If completed, they would provide a stable income for his suddenly impoverished family. In the setting of Grant Cottage, 1907, the drama, tragedy and eventual triumph of 1884-1885 comes to life through a collection of Grant stories told in the person of Martha Josephine Kelsey Clarke, Grant Cottage caretaker, portrayed by Melissa Trombley-Prosch. Reenactors portraying Martha's niece, Christine Curtiss, and brother, (Joseph) Samuel Kelsey, will also participate in the program. Refreshments using vintage recipes will be served.

Every woman alive struggles with self-doubt, which is often brought on as she strives for the impossible-society's version of "perfection"-and the harder she tries to meet those expectations, the harder her girly thoughts work to convince her she is a lost cause. Psychologist and resiliency coach Patricia O'Gorman, PhD, has created the definitive detox program that will change everything for women-the feminist in her 70s, the corporate executive in her 60s, the small-business owner in her 50s, the divorcée in her 40s, the young mother in her 30s, and the newly minted college graduate in her 20s. Here Dr. O'Gorman further explores the hot new concept that has excited readers around the world from Dubai to Toronto-girly thoughts. Introduced in The Resilient Woman: 7 Steps to Personal Power and delved into here in greater depth, the term girly thoughts gives every woman a name for the negative inner voice that robs her of her personal power by telling her counter-productive messages: •You are too smart or too assertive to be desirable. •You are too heavy, skinny, or busty to be attractive. •It's your fault your husband had an affair. •You need to worry about others, not yourself. •The only way out is to anesthetize the pain of your girly thoughts. This special presentation will take place at the 2nd Annual Beautiful Women Doing Beautiful Things Women's Networking Event on Thursday, August 28th hosted by Marvalous Events LLC. For more information about this event or to RSVP, please call Marvali Garcia at 518-506-2674.

Three years after General Grant's death, a movement was afoot to have his birthday declared a national holiday. On April 27, 1888, a roomful of Grant admirers gathered at the renowned Delmonico's Banquet House in New York City to promote the cause. Those admirers, including former Union and Confederate generals, spoke of their love and respect for Ulysses S. Grant. Transcripts of their speeches have survived and today's Porch Chat is taken directly from those transcripts. Today's talk will be presented by Grant Cottage tour guide Steve Trimm and by his brother, the well-known regional theater actor Tracy Trimm.

Works from five photographers come together this summer at the Albany Institute. The exhibition Summer Exposure offers five different ventures into photographic vision, media, and artistic conception. Each photographer was given the freedom to select the content for his or her own exhibition. For Hoey and Fels that meant focusing on a single series, and for Blackwood, a single theme "elements of place." The content selected by both Benjamin and Jaeger offer retrospective overviews of each photographer's work. In total, the variety of subject matter and photographic media makes for an exciting summer of discovery.
