Were you planning on using your time off around the holidays to hit the slopes or test out that new sled? It doesn’t seem like that will be a possibility with this uncharacteristically warm weather! However, we’ve rounded up our top picks for things to do in the Capital Region area to keep you (and your guests!) entertained this week. Take a look:
1. Drive Through the Lights
Have guests in town for the holidays? Bring them through Capital Holiday Lights in Albany’s Washington Park! The park opens up each night at 6:00 PM. There are more than 125 illuminated displays throughout the historic park and refreshments, crafts and more at the Lakehouse.
2. Explore a Museum
Saratoga Springs is known for its history, so why not check out a museum this week? You can find museums for car enthusiasts to dance lovers to history buffs! Take a look at the list of museums in the area, you’ll be glad you did!
3. Empire “Skate” Plaza
Enjoy ice skating at Empire State Plaza without bundling up! The rink is open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM (closed for maintenance from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM) and skating is free. Amenities include a full-service snack bar and a skate lounge with lockers and music. Imagine how much easier skating is without wearing several layers! Be sure to call 518-474-2418 ahead of time — if it’s raining the rink may be closed.
4. Visit the Battlefield
Take advantage of the warm weather and take a stroll through the historic and beautiful Battle of Saratoga battlefield. Start out your visit at the Visitor’s Center to check out artifacts and browse through several displays including interactive maps before exploring the battlefield. Trace through the soldiers’ footsteps and prepare to be in awe of your surroundings!
5. Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Whether you have a group of kids, a group of adults, or both to entertain, a scavenger hunt around Saratoga is the perfect way to entertain guests of all ages! Your clues could lead to objects or pieces of information that your scavengers have to piece together. There are also several Saratoga-centric themes to choose from including horses, history, dance and more. Saratoga is a walkable city, which makes finding it the perfect place to collect information or pictures along the way.
