The north end of Clifton Country Road may be getting a makeover as town officials persist in their efforts to improve the aesthetics Clifton Park, NY town center's Northway exit 9 area.
One proposal came from Behan & Associates of Saratoga Springs, NY, with plans to beautify the median from the intersection of Route 146 south to Clifton Park Center. A large, decorative clock; distinct crosswalk areas; flowers; street lights replicating cast iron gas lights of the 19th century; and even a small granite marker from the town thanking veterans for their service are all part of Behan & Associates proposal.
The New York State Department of Transportation will need to examine the area before discussion on construction to the town center's Northway exit 9 area can move forward with surveying, initiating documents, and cost estimates, as Route 146 is a state road and the DOT would control all work permits.
While still in the proposal phase, Clifton Park officials are excited at the prospect of improving the visual appearance of the town center, a project many believe is long overdue.

Shouldn't we be more concerned with improving traffic flow in this highly congested area more than beautification? We should be looking at the possibility of using roundabouts or other means to relieve congestion at the intersection of Routes 9 & 146 and the surrounding area to improve traffic safety, reduce emissions, and lessen the stress of high traffic for our drivers.
