About this event
Due to miSci's temporary closure, this exhibit has been canceled.
For a small child, there are few things more magical than rainbows... and one would be: butterflies! Escape cabin fever, and discover hundreds of brilliantly colored native butterflies at miSci.
Watch butterflies at every stage of life – from egg to the Chrysalis chamber to adulthood. Learn about different species of butterflies from the area, including: Monarchs, Black Swallowtails, Buckeyes, Painted Ladies, Common Buckeyes, Red Admirals, and Spicebush Swallowtails.
Discover what butterflies eat, and how scientists use butterflies as examples for new technology, all inside a re-creation of the butterflies’ natural, outdoor habitat with plants and flowers the butterflies require for food – all tended by masterful volunteer gardeners.
The butterfly house at miSci is open from February 15 through April 19, 2020 and is free with a General Admission ticket (miSci members are also free).
miSci Hours:
- Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 5PM
- Sunday, 12 - 5PM
- Closed Easter Sunday
Insider tip: Because butterflies need a warm, humid environment to regulate body temperature, you can expect the butterfly house to be very warm in contrast with the cool museum, so dress in layers.
